Picture walking along the streets of Rome on your way to the imposing Colosseum or taking a leisurely gondola ride along a canal in Venice. Are you thinking what I’m thinking?... You need the perfect pair of sandals! I’ve been on a mission to locate the perfect Romanesque sandal, reminiscent of the footwear gladiators used to wear in battle but don’t worry, you won’t be doing any fighting in these wonderful creations. Make like Ms. Union and let your ancient Roman-style sandals do all the talking. Just make sure your toes are perfectly polished, these sandals leave nothing to the imagination!

I have to apologize for not blogging in a week or so. I have been busy Salvaging my new house. Actually, it is far from new! The house was built in 1923 and it is the first house that my husband and I have owned. It is a complete fixer! When we got the keys to the house, it had badly stained fuschia carpet, 80's drapes and loads of paneling. We took out the carpet and refinished the original hardwood floors. We also, took all the paneling off the walls and found this lovely portrait underneath. It has since been covered by new drywall. I wish we could have Salvaged it somehow, but it was painted on a crumbling plaster wall. This house has been a lot of work, but just like the clothes I sell on my site, I see its potential!

AquaPoni

Theresa Michelle and Kelli Marie of AquaPoni.
Above and below are the unique and colorful pieces from AquaPoni’s line (also see slideshow below).
Atlanta natives may be up on these two designers but the rest of the world may still be in the dark. Fear not, in my ongoing quest to bring to you emerging talent I present the delectable AquaPoni (well actually, I have to thank Ashley for this one ;). Theresa Michelle and Kelli Marie hail from Los Angeles but the pair have brought their Californian perspective to the South. Think vintage inspired hoodies, retro prints and eclectic fabrics – there’s something for everyone. The duo describe their design aesthetic as follows:

“Providing a fresh melee of rare vintage and repurposed clothing, ethnic jewelry and Boho-chic accessories, and undeniable couture style, AquaPonis unique selection affords reasonable prices for the most high-end shopper to the fashionista on a budget. We want to attract eclectic customers who aren’t afraid to stray far from the norm; people who can actually appreciate one-of-a-kind pieces.”

The line is currently available via boutiques throughout Atlanta, specifically Bombay Gal, P. Valentine, Urban Fusion and Pieces of Adrene. Visit www.aquaponi.com and their MySpace page for more info.

At the first sign of sunshine ladies across the globe run to their favorite pedicurist and get their toes perfectly polished. Rightly so since they’ve been in hibernation for the last five or so months. Now that our pretty feet are enjoying the sun’s rays what do we do with the rest of our legs? I say get a good all-over body massage and show them off in shorts. Whether you opt for this season’s brights or classic neutrals, brandish your legs with pride. If you have cellulite that you don’t want to impose on the world make Bermuda shorts your new friend this summer. And remember, the higher the shoe the better. ;)

Do Unto Others

The Golden Rule is one of those things that people say all the time, but do they really live it out? Here are a few companies that inspire me with their dedication to making a difference. Tom's Shoes is the first one that comes to mind. Blake Mycoskie, Tom's designer and cheif shoe giver, has a "commitment to match every pair purchased with a donated pair to a child in need." To check out their shoes visit tomsshoes.com. Of course, Bono and his wife Ali Hewson are at the top of the list! Their "mission is to create beautiful clothing, while fostering sustainable employment in developing areas of the world, in particular Africa." See the amazing work they are doing along with their beautiful clothes at edunonline.com. There are many more that I hope to share with you as I discover them and seek to find my greater purpose in this business.

Color Block…

Beyonce arriving at Melbourne Airport on April 25, 2007 in Australia.
Maggie Betts with Rachel Roy, in Diane von Furstenberg at the Environmental Lecture and Luncheon at the Museum of Natural History.
Rashida Jones arriving at the 2005 Vanity Fair Oscar Party in West Hollywood, California.
Rihanna arrives at the 20th Annual Kid's Choice Awards held at the UCLA Pauley Pavilion on March 31, 2007 in Westwood, California.

Now is as good a time as any to confront your natural aversion to bright colors. I know it may seem a little frightening to wear luminous yellow or hot pink in the evening (never mind at work) but trust me, it is possible. Why not wear a bright coat over neutrals to ease you into the trend like Ms. Roy or invest in stand-out accessories like a clutch bag or statement earrings. If you’re up to the challenge then make like Beyonce and wear color with pride during the daylight hours. Leave the leopard print bag at home though ;)

My Picks!

Left to right: Payne Print Silk by Diane von Furstenberg, $425, www.net-a-porter.com; Color Block Surplice Dress, $39, www.hotkiss.com; Thick Strap Print Sun Dress, $70, www.topshop.com; Santa Maria Dress by Nanette Lepore, $445.76, www.my-wardrobe.com
Left to right: Cotton Sundress, $28.99, www.charlotte-russe.com; Gold Chain Sheath Dress, $24.50, www.wetseal.com; Zig Zag Sweater Dress$, $22.80, www.forever21.com; Fourtys Mix Print Three Quarter Sleeve Mod Dress, $178, www.shopintuition.com

Charlotte Russe are really stepping up their game. They’ve redesigned their site to make it easier to navigate through their enticing designs.

My Recent Conversion

It has been a long road, but I am almost a fully converted reusable bag lady! It all started last year when I was at one of my favorite stores, TRADER JOES!!!! I noticed that they had these cloth bags with the store's logo on it for $4.99. So, being the sensible person that I am, I asked for them for Christmas. (I owe the word sensible to my lovely former boss Theresa, who helped me to describe myself more tactfully when I thought my only options were cheap or frugal.) When my in-laws gave them to me, my apartment had a horrible mold infestation and after I bleached the bags they were torn and stained; completely unusable. So, I lost touch with the reusable bag concept for a little while because I was too che...uh...sensible to buy another set. Then one day as I was filling my 4-wheeled wonder with Sparkling water and Pirate's Booty, I saw them! The shiny red $.99 bags. I grabbed six of them, they were mine and I never looked back. Now I bag my own groceries while the checker is ringing them up and not only do I save time, but I have helped the environment and spared my hall closet the never ending pile of plastic bags. I have also found similar, but larger bags at IKEA which are much prettier and great for transporting larger items. The biggest challenge is getting in the habit of putting them back in the car after you use them and remembering to take them with you into the store. Once you can remember those simple steps, you will be well on your way to putting a small dent in the consumption of "500,000,000,000 (that's 500 billion) plastic bags annually, or almost 1 million per minute." Remember, we have to start somewhere...baby steps. For more information visit www.ReusableBags.com

RimiStyle.com

Thanks for being patient with me! While on my hiatus I received an email from a new accessories online store called RimiStyle.com. Their stuff is quite cute and affordable. The bracelet section is full of charmbracelets – this season’s must-have accessory. Also pay attention to their belts, this one in particular caught my eye.
