Style Spotlight: Constance White

Constance White is a 15 year veteran of the fashion industry. She was recently a correspondent and fashion news anchor for Metro Tv's Full Frontal Fashion. White was founding fashion director and a contributing writer for Talk magazine. Prior to joining Talk, she was a style reporter for The New York Times. Previously, she was Executive fashion editor of Elle magazine. She is the author of the stylishly informative book, "StyleNoir''. She has also written for Essence, The International Herald Tribune and British Vogue. White has also appeared as a fashion correspondent on Lifetime Television and has been a guest style expert on several television programs including, "Oprah'', "Colin Cowie's Everyday Elegance'', "Today in New York'', WABC-TV's "Inside Fashion Week" and E!'s Video Fashion. [Source] Her current position is at eBay where she acts as the Style Director. I’m a little lost as to why eBay needs a Style Editor but never-the-less they couldn’t have picked a better and more qualified person for the job. Check out her blog called “Fashion is My Life,” here.

What Say We?... Yay or Nay?!

Naomi Campbell leaving her community service gig yesterday. Campbell pleaded guilty in January to hitting her housekeeper in the head with a cell phone after she couldn't find a pair of her jeans!

Community service for most is a time for self-reflection and perhaps unearthing the demons that put you in that situation in the first place. For Naomi Campbell, this is another opportunity to show off her 3-inch stilettos, given to her gratis courtesy of her designer friends. Now I’m not suggesting that Naomi should show up at the New York City Sanitation Department Depot looking all raggedy, but if all you’ll be doing is mopping and sweeping floors, are the trilby hat, excessive jewelry and fur coat necessary? Yay for the fabulous outfits. Nay for personal growth!

Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys posing during an appearance on BET's 106 & Park to promote “Smokin’ Aces” last month in New York City.
Alicia Keys’ weight fluctuates more than unstable shares on the stock market. If she doesn’t have an upcoming project than she tends to be a lot fuller but either way she never fails to look flawless. Take this ensemble for example. Satin or silk can be very unflattering therefore you need to be in shape to pull most dresses off in these materials. Alicia Keys looks flirty ‘n’ fun in this cute mini-dress teamed with knee-highs. And to spice things up don’t forget your fishnet tights ;)

Steal Alicia’s Style

Dress: Tunic Dress with Bib Front, $80, www.topshop.com
Boots: Round Toe High Leg Boot, $190, Topshop
Necklaces: Find It In Your Necklace, $14 & Lincolnshire Pearled Coin Necklace, $10, both from www.alltherageonline.com
Tights: Levante Fishnet Tights, $9.49, www.mytights.com

The boots are only available in the Topshop store so U.S. readers will not be able to get them but you can easily find an alternative. Wear with a short necklace and a longer pendant. I’m loving pendants right now, H&M has a good and cheap selection of pendants.

Let Purple Reign...

Rihanna inside the 8th Annual Teen Choice Awards at the Gibson Amphitheatre last summer in California.
Kenya Moore arriving at the premiere of Screen Gem's "Stomp The Yard" at the Cinerama Dome on Monday night in LA.
Angela Bassett arriving for the Film Life's 2006 Black Movie Awards at the Shrine Wiltern Theater on October 15, 2006 in Los Angeles, California.
Malinda Williams and Niecy Nash attending the launch of the dramatized audio recording of "The Bible Experience" held at the West Angeles Church of God in Christ on last November in LA.
Jada Pinkett Smith inside the “Will and Jada Smith” party honoring Grammy nominee Mary J. Blige held at at Boulevard3 last month in Hollywood, California.

Why should only royals and the artist known as Prince get to prance about in purple garments? Nothing says “look at me I’m special” like a jewel-purple dress paired with gold heels and diamonds. The ladies above are already enjoying the benefits of this regal hue. From violet to plum, every variation is bound to make you shine. All you need now is your crown…

My Picks!

Left to right: Frill Sleeve Belted Dress, $70, www.topshop.com; Sinatra Dress, $148, www.frenchconnection.com; Tunic Dress, $56, www.topshop.com; V-neck Sweater Dress, $22.50, www.wetseal.com
Left to right: Tawny Dress, $40.99, www.gojane.com; Silk Colorblock Bubble Print Dress by Proenza Schouler, $44.99, www.target.com; Violet V-neck Prom Gowns by Flip, $258, www.edressme.com; Charmeuse Faux Wrap Dress, $156, www.kiyonna.com

I can’t imagine wearing a purple dress with anything other than metallic shoes, maybe black. Also invest in some chandelier earrings to add a little more sparkle to this regal look. The last dress comes in sizes 10 to 32 visit Kiyonna.com. Meanwhile the dress from EDressMe.com is a copy of a dress Kiera Knightly wore in 2005. I loved it then and I love it now.
