Style Spotlight: Rachel Roy

For those who don't know, and I just found out myself, Rachel Roy is Damon Dash's girlfriend/ significant other/ baby momma. Anyway, she's quite the fashionista, i've seen a few pics of her looking fantastic recently... this pic was taken at the Revlon launch of its new fragrance “Flair” in New York, May 22nd, 2006. Oh and did you know she recently started a fashion label? I suspect this outfit is one of her own designs (the bag is the infamous Chloe Silverado). Okay so I did little online 'research' and found these two cute tops from www.revolveclothing.com Yes they're freakin' expensive, but oh so cute! I can't afford them so i'll continue with my weekend pursuit for a ribbon tie top like Kristin Cavalleri's below. Failing that, i'll just buy some ribbon from my local fabric store, wrap it around an existing shirt and call it a day!!

Don't get me wrong, I love heels but sometimes you need a break or maybe you just want to make a style statement - in either case flat shoes are perfect! At an event where most of the ladies will undoubtedly be wearing pumps or sandals it's always interesting to see someone dare to go flat... These are some really cute flats, who says you should only wear heels to feel dressed up? My favorite pair are the ones up top. The Zebra print and ballerina ribbon make this shoe perfect for jeans and skirts and at just $34.99, you really can't go wrong!

Goapele is one of my ipod staples but her music is only half of the reason why I admire her; I also love her image... Style Spotlight: Sanaa Lathan

Sanaa Lathan looked fabulous in this Nina Ricci dress she wore to attend the Nina Ricci Fall 2006 Collection fashion show benefiting The Rape Foundation at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills, on April 26, 2006. I can't find out who designed her shoes so if anyone knows let me know... Gabrielle Union also wore a similar Nina Ricci dress to the same event, then they were both seen later that evening at the US Weekly party and why not, the dress is too fabulous to waste on just one party!

Celebrities are still rocking the Miss Sixty 'Dublin' style jeans even though skinny jeans are all the rage. I have a pair but they're plain, that is they lack any pockets or detailing... I tried in vain to get the cargo style initially (pictured above) but couldn't find them so settled for the slight variation! What I love most about these pants is that I can wear them with pointy boots or flip flops, only problem is they are quite thick so wearing them in the summer can be uncomfortable.

Kate Moss

The eternally stylish Kate Moss gets it right again with this red, polka dot dress. I've always wondered where her daughter is when they take these candid photos, we never see them together but I digress! Anyway, this dress is a salute to the 50's with its retro cut and color... note the black leather belt Kate adds to give the look a modern twist!

The red dress Kate is wearing below my not work on my skin complexion (or maybe i'm a little afraid of red!,) so I found a flattering black polka dot dress instead. Target have their own version of the Cholé Python Silverado bag that costs just $16.99! Now while it's not the same as having a designer bag it comes pretty close in terms of detailing. So if you're a fashionable lady on a not-so-friendly budget, this is the way to go... Don't say I don't do anything for ya!

This is one of the bags du jour; it's the Chloé Silverado bag which came out in 2004 but is still hot today. Most celebrities have the python skin, medium sized version of this bag but in comes in large too... Prices can run up to $2000, but good ol' ebay has several of these bags on sale for as low as $140!! To find them just do a search on ebay using keyword 'Chloé Silverado bag.'

Style Spotlight: Nicole Richie

Granted Nicole Richie needs to eat a few sandwiches, but no one can deny the way she's really improved her sense of style.... gone are the multi-colored dreads, mismatched outfits and ill-fitting clothes. Here is one of her many casual outfits that I adore. Her shirt is designed by Argentinean designer Jessica Trosman. The Sweetface Babydoll

Jennifer Lopez's clothing line, Sweetface has a very pretty babydoll dress from their last collection. Both JLO and Gisele have worn it on the red carpet. Jennifer wore it to the Macy’s Passport Gala in 2005, while model Gisele Bundchen wore it to the unveiling of the Spring/Summer 2006 Vogue Eyewear Collection and Ad Campaign at Eyebeam Atelier. This dress is very pretty, but alas no pockets :( I might wear this over jeans in the day, although it looks like it may be a little to long to pull that off...

I found another dress by Brazilian designer Lila Colzani, for her fashion house Colcci, based in Rio de Janeiro. Worn in the picture by Gisele, the dress is from Colcci's current Spring/Summer collection - and yes it has pockets!!
Note: Designer Narciso Rodriguez is also known for adding pockets to his evening dresses.

The Babydoll Dress Redefined...

Ever since I saw Chloe Dao’s winning collection on Project Runway, I’ve been trying to find a similar babydoll dress (left). Tracee Ellis Ross is so stylish! I don't think she gets the recognition she deserves, both as an actress and as a style icon.
