Hopeful Shopping: Medium Weight Coats for Warmer Times

BB Dakota Miner Jacket - $65

BB Dakota Riberton Jacket - $60

Rag & Bone Euston Coat - $735

Plastic Island Nomad Reversible Jacket - $99

Rag & Bone Northfield Poncho - $556.50

Evil Twin Military Parka - $144.20

All of these are sale prices, from my Shopbop wishlist.  I like them all, but each had something or another that prevents me from committing to the buy:

BB Dakota Miner
Pros: Color, toggles, leather piping, length, structure
Cons: Reminds me too much of my MissSixty navy jacket

BB Dakota Riberton
Pros: Color, buttons, perfect midweight look
Cons: Also reminds me too much of something else, my superold but eternallove BR trench

Rag & Bone Euston
Pros: Color, buttons, leather piping, contrast of the collar, length
Cons: Seriously?  $735, on sale?

Plastic Island Nomad
Pros: Color(s), reversible-ness for a 2-in-1 item where I actually like both sides
Cons: Price kinda high for something that I feel looks slightly cheap on both sides =(

Rag & Bone Northfield
Pros: Poncho/cape (!!), colors, the draping, the mild checkered pattern, the superheroish back
Cons: Again, $556.50?!

Evil Twin Military
Pros: Color, studding, lightweightness, casualchic feel, I've been looking for/wanting something like this for a while
Cons: Everyone else seems to hate this style (including you, T, I know), and this one seems a tad too long

T, 1/17/11:
BB Dakota Miner:  cute, looks like a&f, lurve toggles, can't really go wrong.   My concern with purchasing jackets online, though, is how thick they actually are in person.  Is this going to be warm enough?

BB Dakota Riberton:  don't really like this for some reason . . . maybe it's the weird way the double breastedness hangs when it's unbuttoned.

Rag & Bone Euston:  always a fan of R&B, but I never really liked green. Double breasted looks better here, kind of cute, but the green still bugs.

Plastic Island Nomad:  NO!!!  DO NOT GET THIS!!!  Why would you want to look like a skinned sheep, and then a grown sheep?!

Rag & Bone Northfield:  supra re: lurve for R&B, but this looks messy and disjointed . . . really now, green + plaid + weird different colored middle?  It reminds me of care bears, where their head/arms/legs are one color, and their bellies are white . . . cute on stuffed animals, not on people.

Evil Twin Military:  this is a green I can do, because of the military style.  Nothing special, I feel, but not bad.

BB Dakota Palmer Sweater

Source: Piperlime, Ebay

$88.00 + 30% discount = ~$63.00 (Piperlime - S, M, L available)
$61.20 + free shipping (Ebay - M, L available)

51% Acrylic / 34% Nylon / 15% Mohair

Been considering this for a while, love the color and length (and now brand), but still, over $50 for a sweater.  This got rave reviews on Piperlime, but one person said the minimal amnt of mohair still made it kinda itchy.  Plus, I included an extra pic yet again bc it looks so diff in the diff pic (3rd pic) - why does the color look so off in that one?  All in all, I am hesitant, probably mostly bc of price.  What are the chances that it will go on sale to under $50 soon?  Part of me feels like I should wait on EVERYTHING til after x-mas to see if they will all go on sale...is that how it works?

T, 12/20/10:  I'm deathly afraid of itchy -- my goal is to know I can sleep anywhere in all the clothing I wear, haha.  It's very pretty, I love sparkly and neutral colors, but I don't think it's worth $60ish, or even $50ish . . . I wouldn't want to pay more than $30 for a sweater.  But since we usually equate love with an extra $20, I guess $50 or under would be a nice max price for you.

A -- 12/21/10: LOL dude, I remember when I first showed you this about a month ago, you were totally in favor of buying!  I also remember, a couple months back when discussing TEC as relating to my new slouchysweater love, you said that $50 was a good max for sweaters.  At this rate, in a few months, we will no longer find purchasing clothing at any price acceptable, and will somehow start scrounging for scraps of fabric to assemble into something wearable!!!

BB Dakota Damon Leather Jacket

~$80 from Piperlime
Original Retail: $225 (Fall 2009)

So excited to get/wear this!  I've been seeing ruffly-ish leather jackets recently (including the $845 DVF one on my leather wishlist post), and the other day I saw a girl at the dogpark wearing one, and looking awesome.  Although maybe my opinion was influenced by her superthickandshiny hair.  Either way, seem to be on a nature kick lately - leather, fur, kind of wanting to braid string/feathers into my hair lately too.  Wonder what kind of phase this is...

T, 11/9/10: CONGRATS!!!  When you first sent me the link, and I opened it and only saw the heading (leather jacket) -- I was expecting just that . . . another leather jacket.  But this is amazing/diff/hip/cool/stylish . . . and prob not so t/e that you can wear this for a while.  And speaking of braiding -- at the airport, I saw a girl with a bead at each tip of her bangs, which were braided into small sections . . . it looked kind of ghetto, haha.  In any case, great buy!!!

T, 11/11/10: btw, your jacket reminds me of the "tuxedo jacket" trend fabsugar wrote about:  http://www.fabsugar.com/Tuxedo-Jacket-Trend-11921763

A -- 11/11/10: Yay it's here!!  When I first tried it on I thought it might be too big, even tho it fits perfectly in the shoulders/arms area, but then I realized there are these little ties inside the jacket to keep the waist area fitted.  So when it's tied (you can't really see the ties bc of the ruffles in front) the waist is fitted, and the front is all wavy/ruffly in an awesome way.  More so than in the pic above, bc it kind of waves a couple times, instead of just once in the picture.  So not exactly what I expected, but still pretty awesome.  I will be trying it out outside now! =)

T, 11/11/10: sooo awesome!  Yeah, I saw the txtpic of your arms/shoulders and thought it fitted nicely.  REALLY like it, and glad the unlinedness doesn't feel cheap, which is imp.  Very pretty!

A -- 11/15/10: Love this jacket!! Have been wearing it constantly, got many compliments on it already!  A girl in the D&G store called it a "piece", and then showed me how I could pin it to wear just as a top alone.  LOVE.
