Shopping in My Own Store: Vintage Knit Dress

When I was at selling at Unique LA, I sold so much on Saturday that I needed to bring more clothes for Sunday, so I ran by the studio that morning and grabbed some of the clothing I had just gotten in.  There was this gorgeous cream knit dress in the pile and later that day when there was a lull, I decided to try it on over my clothes.  My friend Kassi and I agreed that I just had to keep it, at least for now.  I wasn't sure if I would get a chance to wear it before the fall, but to my surprise it has been very cold the last few days, so yesterday I threw it on with some, tights, boots and a bold leather trench.

The Jeffrey Campbell's That Didn't Make the Cut...

I bought these Jeffrey Campbell shoes for my brother's wedding thinking that they might create some much needed contrast with my ultra feminine vintage bridesmaid dress.  They ended up not having quite the right look, but they have been getting good use in other outfits.  Take this everyday outfit for example: I took a lace camisole, paired it with a long thin sweater that I tied around my waist.  I cuffed my jeans and threw on a necklace from my shop.  If you have any suggestions of what else these shoes would go well with, please share!  You can expect a later post about what shoes I did choose for the wedding and other ones that didn't make the cut.

Holes and Stains, But I Don't Care

I bought this 1940's dress a while back and it had a big stain on the skirt, it faded a bit with washing, but is too pronounced to sell in the shop, so it's now in my closet.  There is also a tiny hole in the bodice, but I don't care.  It's funny because people always ask me how I don't just keep all the vintage that I have in my shop, but I kind of have a rule that if it's in great condition, I have to try to sell it first.  If you ever see me wearing vintage, it will probably have a hole or stain, but don't hate because that just means that all the perfect vintage is in the shop for you to snatch up! I wore this outfit a few days before Easter and I liked it so much, I wore it again that day, with different shoes (hence, the last photo with my little Ruby and my hubby, Jeff).
The purse I am carrying, I made a few years ago from a vintage leather skirt and an old belt, I still have a box of leather skirts in the garage that I intended to make more of them out of, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Outfit Post: Gone Sailing

Every Spring I am excited to see that nautical fashion is still in style.  It has taken a more subdued approach this time around, but as long as people are swimming and boating it will probably be acceptable to wear.  Here is a fun nautical themed outfit that I wore the other day.  I included a trunk in my pictures because I imagined myself going on a sailing adventure and I figured I could fit my whole outfit inside, plus it just makes the photos more interesting!

Now and Later: Saffron Dress

I picked up this simple saffron maxi dress at Target the other day.  Since I don't really have much time to shop, I just grabbed it on my way to get laundry detergent and dental floss.  I love mixing inexpensive finds with vintage and higher end items to create a unique look.  Here's how I'm wearing it while there is still a chill in the air, the last photo is how I'll wear it when it gets a little warmer.  I borrowed the necklace and bag from my shop, so you can click on the links below if you are interested.

Don't get this Rose Petal Necklace Wet!

A friend recently showed me a necklace that she inherited from her Great Grandmother from the 1920's.  It was a pretty faint pink color and the beads were made from actual rose petals!  She later emailed me a link to one she saw on Ruby Lane and I was so excited, I bought it.  When it came in the mail the other day, I put it on right away.  The necklace is a light lavender and came with instructions to not get it wet or it would dissolve.  Such an interesting piece, I love that it is made of such delicate material and has survived so long.

A Current Affair Outfits

There is this vintage show here in LA called A Current Affair that I have heard some amazing things about and haven't yet had a chance to attend.  I made that right this weekend and visited it on Saturday night.  They had about 25 vintage vendors of the high quality variety and I was impressed by how well curated the selection was.  I was also able to connect with some online vintage friends too as an added bonus!  My sister, Amy, and I got dressed up in our vintage best and went out to dinner beforehand.  It was a great girl's night out!  Here's a few pics to share of our outfits. Amy borrowed a dress and necklace from my shop, the necklace can be found here and the dress will be available online soon!

Outfit Post: Trying to Wear Color on a Gloomy Day

I wore this outfit the other day when it was pretty gloomy outside...it's funny how the weather often dictates the clothing I choose to wear.  I put on the turquoise sweater and red belt after I realized how dull my color choices were.  I think this outfit could use a red umbrella or something!

Outfit Post: Mixing Prints and Cozy Sweater

I wore this outfit the other day and I just love this super cozy sweater.  It really is too big for me, but I don't care, I love when the sleeves cover my hands.  I think sweaters will be the only thing I miss when the warm weather comes in.
