Finding My Way

I was born without any sense of direction. Zero. It's really quite embarrassing. Over the years, I've tried to improve my senses, but despite my best efforts, I still get lost very easily. This is why I found this compass trinket from 23rd Street Vintage to be a wise investment. Not only do I love its golden sparrow accent, it will help me get my bearings whenever I may need them.

Wizards Of Waverly Place Movie

Tonight is the premiere of the Wizards of Waverly Place Movie. Feel free to post your reviews here, don't give away any spoilers. I usually can't stand the shows on the Disney Channel, but Wizards of Waverly Place is one I can watch with my 10 year old and not want to go jump off my roof. So I am excited to see what the movie is like, it was a long time coming.

Cold Shoulder

So a girlfriend and I were discussing this sharp shouldered fall trend last night, and just can't decide how we feel about it. It gets dreadfully close to crossing the line back in to 80's-shoulder-pad-hell, while at the same time is rather striking. On a tiny frame, it seems to be adorable, but I'm just not sure how it might look on normal human sized people. What do you guys think? Sharp or dull?

Fall '09 Photo Shoot - Sneak Peek

I was just going through some of the pictures from Sunday's photo shoot and I am really happy with the results. I was pretty nervous since this is my first time being my own fashion photographer, but the photos look just like I imagined in my head. I have to say, it's really nice not to have to try to communicate my ideas to another creative mind, sometimes artists just have different ways of seeing things, not wrong just different. Katie and I made a great two woman team; she was model, hair stylist and makeup artist while I was photographer and stylist. Here's one of my favorites of the photos so far...no editing has been done.

8 Ways to Take Control of Your Universe

As to be expected, the new school year always comes with a slew of articles about "getting organized." (yawn) To save you the bother, I've compiled a list of fabulous ways to not only de-clutter your home, but also de-clutter your life, and take control of your world...for good.

1. Stop the junk mail

Americans spend way too much time sifting through the ads and credit card offers. Make it stop once and for all (and save a tree or two). Concerned that you will stop getting coupons and your favorite catalogs? Just knock out the credit card offers.

Credit Bureau - 1-888-5-OPTOUT.

Catalogs - www.abacus-us.com/About_Abacus/Opt-Out

Pick which catalogs you want to decline: https://www.catalogchoice.org/

Direct mail marketing -https://www.dmachoice.org/MPS/mps_consumer_description.php

(this service costs $1 and is only good for 5 years)

2. Silence telemarketers

Still not on the "no call" list? What are you thinking? Go there now, and (almost) never be interrupted at the dinner table again. https://www.donotcall.gov/

Good news: Now registration never expires.

3. Clear the inbox

Only keep emails in your inbox if you need to "take action" on them. An overflowing inbox is too much for our brains to process, and important emails are easily lost in the shuffle. If you are overwhelmed by the task, schedule yourself a 5-10 minute appointment each day to sort, delete and file (or delete 5 messages every time you check your email). Make sure you have a comprehensive set of file folders, and go to town.

4. Guilt yourself into de-cluttering your closet

While you are putting away that new cashmere sweater that your mom bought you, sort through the rest of your closet. You know those pieces that you haven't worn since Ross and Rachel starting dating? Somebody less fortunate could be using them. Hit up your local Goodwill, get a receipt, and write those bad boys off of your taxes.

For a list of common values for donations: http://www.salvationarmysouth.org/valueguide.htm

For a Goodwill near you: http://locator.goodwill.org/

5. Purge paper bills

Stop the clutter from even entering your home. Receiving bills by snail mail is like - so 2005. Switch to all e-statements (even I am guilty of not doing this one), and purge any bills, bank statements etc. that date before last summer.

*Doh! Alert* -don't throw away anything that you might need for tax records!

Don't fret! Many companies offer e-statements in pdf format on the company's web site. Download and save them each month on your computer in a folder named for the company. You can safely keep years of statements on the computer for easy access any time.

6. Freshen your air

There was a study done at Washington State University three years ago examining the impact of plants on people. They found that having house plants made the indoor air healthier, reduced stress, improved productivity, and enhanced moods. So why not bring your leafy friends in? Febreeze only goes so far.

7. Auto-organize

Take your old jalopy to the car spa and give it some TLC. A little interior detailing, wash and wax will give you a fresh start for the new school year. It's also fun to invest in some car organization products. Trunk organizers, over-the-seat trash cans, and mobile office stations (thanks mom!) allow you to "live" out of your car, without it looking like a teenager's room. For some great options check out www.containerstore.com

8. Prepare for the worst

I know, it sounds so dramatic! It isn't likely that disaster is headed your way, but just in case, it is nice to know that you have all of your information in one place. TheNest.com and Real Simple Magazine have some fabulous worksheets to get you started. You can find anything from a birthday sheet organizer to a monthly budget worksheet, but here are a few of my favorites.

Back in Business!

Salvage Life is back after a nice long relaxing vacation. Me and the fam went to Washington DC, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. We all had a great time. Here is a collage of architectural elements from some of the buildings in DC. I always find these more interesting than the actual exhibits. More pictures to follow and a lot of exciting things coming, including a Fall '09 photo shoot, a new website, loads of new merchandise and a live sale! Thanks for waiting while I rejuvenated and prepared for a strong fall season at Salvage Life!

Gray Area

Happy Monday friends! Thank you to Maureen for the lovely write up last week! Don't forget to enter the contest to win one of her prints.

Got furniture on the brain at the moment. Ever since I invested in my first real sofa a few months ago, I've been wanting to add more and more throughout the house. My latest fixation is on a charcoal gray sofa. Not quite sure what style I'd like, but here a few I've found so far. Any suggestions?

What Is Kourtney Kardashian Going To Do When The Public Gets Tired Of Her Pregnancy

Everyday Kourtney Kardashian comes up with a new way to sell her baby to the press, and there are still months to go in her pregnancy. Is she the new Tori Spelling? What is she going to do when the public gets tired of her little rating baby before it is even born? But at least she gives me someone to make fun of.

As Kourtney Kardashian and boyfriend Scott Disick relish in their baby bliss, the five-months-pregnant reality star tells PEOPLE that it's a "bittersweet" experience since her late father, attorney Robert Kardashian, isn't around to share in the joy.

"I wish my dad was here, but I know that he is here with us [in spirit], and I feel like this is definitely a blessing from him," Kourtney, 30, tells PEOPLE of her father, who passed away at age 59 in 2003 after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer. "I would love for him to be here and experience this all. I feel like he would be so happy."

Kardashian's mom, Kris Jenner – who divorced Robert in 1989 and subsequently married former Olympian Bruce Jenner – has also gotten emotional about his absence. "My mom was crying, like, 'Your dad would be so happy.' And you know, I feel like it's cool, because I feel like he's here."

In fact, Kardashian says, "It's bittersweet, and that's how I feel about getting married, too. I almost don't want to get married because I don't want him to not be there."

But Kardashian will keep her father's legacy alive by emulating his parenting, she says. "I would like to be how my dad was as a parent to us," she tells PEOPLE. "He would always be our friend, but not too much. We would know that we could go to him and tell him everything."

Kardashian says her dad was stricter than her mom, and thinks that she's likely to posses that characteristic as a mother herself.

"I think I am strict, she says. "Even [my younger half-sisters] Kendall and Kylie say, 'You are going to be the meanest mom,' because one time at Disneyland I yelled at Kendall because she was throwing a brat attack, because my mom wouldn't buy her a Tinkerbell shirt ... I was like, 'That's not how you teach your kids!' "

But she won't be too harsh with her own child. "Definitely you want to spoil your kids," she says. "But I want them to learn responsibility and want them to make their own money. My dad taught us that."

Woman Pregnant With 12 Babies Crazy, Liar

A Tunisian woman's claim of being pregnant with 12 babies is a farce, a health official said Wednesday.

Dr. Mongi Hamrouni, head of the ministry's public health department, said he was "more than 99 percent" sure the woman claiming to be expecting six boys and six girls has a mental problem.

Medical experts were dispatched to the central city of Gafsa where the 30-year-old woman resides, but she again refused to be examined, another health ministry official said on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak publicly about the case.

Mansour Hamhoum, a regional health official in charge of Gafsa, said he could not locate any medical records of the pregnancy in the city hospital.

The woman's lawyer Lotsi Smat said she's a former Arabic language teacher. Smat said he also doubted the woman's claim after she refused to show him an ultrasound confirming her pregnancy.

Health experts say a 12-baby pregnancy is next to impossible. They believe the woman could be experiencing a "phantom pregnancy," a rare condition where a woman believes she is pregnant and can actually develop symptoms consistent with pregnancy, like a swelling abdomen, missing a period or feeling that a baby is moving inside her.

Jon Edwards To Take Paternity Test

But don't expect the results unless they are negative. And why would he move Rielle Hunter and baby Frances near his home if the chances weren't really good that it was his child.

Amid several unconfirmed reports that her husband, former Sen. John Edwards, is nearing an announcement about the paternity of his former mistress's 18-month-old baby, Elizabeth Edwards says she expects a DNA test will take place – and hopes it can be done quietly.

During a Wednesday night appearance with CNN's Larry King to debate health-care reform, Mrs. Edwards, 60, was asked about DNA testing of Rielle Hunter's baby daughter, Frances.

"My expectation is that, at some point, something happens," she replied. "And I hope for the sake of this child that it happens, you know, in a quiet way."

All's quiet, too, at her house, Edwards said. Despite a supermarket tabloid cover story this week that claims she recently packed her bags in a fit of rage over her husband's alleged decision to move Hunter and the child into a home near his North Carolina beach house, Elizabeth Edwards, mother to two school-aged children, told King: "Things are going fine. We're getting the children ready for a new school year. Everything seems to be going pretty smoothly at my house."

As for her health, Mrs. Edwards, who was diagnosed in early 2007 with incurable Stage 4 breast cancer, reports: "The numbers don't look that optimistic, but I feel good. And I've had recent tests that show me to be in pretty good health, all things considered."

And, she added, "I'm still out here fighting."

Understatement Of The Year- Jon Gosselin Has Changed

Christian Audigier basically admitted to People magazine that Jon Gosselin has changed into a douchebag. And from the sound of it there won't be Jon Gosselin/ Audigier collaboration.

Of course Audigier has moved on to hanging out with this weeks new fame whore, Kari Ann Peniche. He has to make sure that his picture is always in the tabloids. And Jon loves to be seen with Michael Lohan. They are working on a show about celebrity (d-list) divorced dads. Luckily, TLC won't let Jon do the show.

Christian Audigier first saw Jon Gosselin while flipping through the channels and stopping on Jon & Kate Plus 8 – a much simpler time for the reality TV dad, he says.

"I was watching Jon and Kate and then I was seeing him on the cover of magazines with my shirt and asking for a job," the Ed Hardy designer says, adding he soon flew Gosselin out to Saint-Tropez to join him on vacation. "I met the guy for two days to see what he wanted to do as a job. In the beginning it was Jon and Kate, and then the guy came with another girl. He told me, 'I'm going to come with my stylist. I need two tickets for the plane.' So I said, 'no problem.' "

Though Audigier says Gosselin and current girlfriend Hailey Glassman were not officially an item when he showed up with her in Saint-Tropez, "by the time two weeks passed it was a completely new story," he says.

Just where is Gosselin in his life now? "He is not the same as he was," says Audigier. "He has a more complicated life now. He has all of those kids and a girlfriend and ex-wife."

Next, the pals plan to meet up in Las Vegas at the end of August for the annual Magic fashion show. As far as their joint venture, the designer says nothing is set in stone. But one thing is for sure, "Jon wants to do something involving bikes," says Audigier. "He's a biker."

If Jon Gosselin is a biker, I am the Queen of Bloody Sheba.

8x12 Giveaway from Maureen Light Photography!

When I first stumbled upon Houston photographer Maureen Light's website, I was awestruck. I found a mix of stunning portraits, still life, and quirky "fall down the rabbit hole" art photography like nothing I had ever seen. Not to mention event photos so unique, I wanted to get married all over again just so Maureen could be the photographer. Though her photos speak for themselves, I wanted to get to know more about the Dallas native through a little Q&A. Why else do we love her? Maureen is giving away an 8x12 print of your choice from here to 1 lucky reader!! Hoorah! Comment by August 29th for your chance to win!

How long have you been a photographer?
Exactly two years ago! I have taken almost every art class they offer in college, but never photography. I played around a little bit with a point and shoot, but was never satisfied with the quality. A friend of mine had bought a digital SLR a while back and let me play around with it...I was hooked from the first photo I took. Soon after my husband gave me a Nikon for my birthday and I have been obsessed ever since.

If you could photograph anyone dead or alive, who would it be?
I enjoy people that have a different look. I went to London at the beginning of the summer and the first time I stepped on the Tube, which was the first time I had ever been on any subway, I sat down and looked up at my fellow passengers and thought I had been transplanted into a Jean-Pierre Jeunet movie. Everyone in my carriage was larger than life, looked like real life cartoon characters. I loved it! I wish I could have photographed the carriage just how it was,...the people, what they were wearing (one guy had almost an iridescent blue suit on), how they were interacting with one another...the whole scene. Not to mention the man dressed as a Ninja Turtle that was exiting while I was entering.

What about any thing?
Would certainly have to be an old country farm in Europe. Thatched roofed house, wooden fences, pigs and sheep, vegetable garden,....

How would you describe your style?
Oh gezz, I'm not sure. It's a bit dreamlike, funky, childish, quirky....I'd say Alice In Wonderlandish, I suppose. I'm certainly a portrait artist, because it almost pains me to take a photo without a person in it.

I love how many of your photos are quirky and creative. Where does your inspiration come from?
I read in a magazine when I was around the age of ten about how when people become adults, they only use a very small amount of their imagination. I vowed then to never loose mine. I lay in bed at night and think of different images, sometimes having to get up and recreate them in photos before I can fall asleep. I've ended up doing a lot of self-portraits because there was no one else around when I was in absolute need of creating something at that moment. I find inspiration in many things...my children, movies, stories from friends, props....etc.

Kourtney Kardashian Continues To Pimp Out Unborn Child

Kourtney Kardashian (the least interesting of the sisters)is milking every bit of press that she can out of her pregnancy. Now we get to read about her decision not to have an abortion, she would be be the poster child of the anti-abortion movement if she wasn't so tacky.

Kourtney Kardashian's unplanned pregnancy forced the shocked reality TV star to make one of the most difficult decisions in her life: Would she have the baby or terminate the pregnancy?

"I definitely thought about it long and hard, about if I wanted to keep the baby or not, and I wasn't thinking about adoption," Kardashian, 30, who was shooting E!'s Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami at the time, tells PEOPLE exclusively. "I do think every woman should have the right to do what they want, but I don't think it's talked through enough. I can't even tell you how many people just say, 'Oh, get an abortion.' Like it's not a big deal."

Scott Disick, the baby's 26-year-old father, was supportive either way. The pair had split in November after two years of dating, but reconciled shortly after finding out she was pregnant. "He wanted me to talk about it more, but I just kept to myself," she says. "He said, 'I really want you to keep it, but I will support you whatever you decide to do.'"

Confused and concerned, Kardashian says, "I called my best friend crying, and I was like, 'I don't know what to do.' She said, 'Call your doctor, and at least find out the risks and stuff.' " So Kardashian discussed abortion with her physician, and then headed to the Internet to do further research.

"I looked online, and I was sitting on the bed hysterically crying, reading these stories of people who felt so guilty from having an abortion," she recalls. "I was reading these things of how many people are traumatized by it afterwards."

After scouring the Internet, Kardashian says she started to realize that an abortion wasn't an option for her. "I was just sitting there crying, thinking, 'I can't do that,' " she says. "And I felt in my body, this is meant to be. God does things for a reason, and I just felt like it was the right thing that was happening in my life."

Kardashian says she did some intense soul-searching. "For me, all the reasons why I wouldn't keep the baby were so selfish: It wasn't like I was raped, it's not like I'm 16. I'm 30 years old, I make my own money, I support myself, I can afford to have a baby. And I am with someone who I love, and have been with for a long time."

Although Kardashian sought out the advice of others, she says it was her decision – and hers alone – that was the most important.

"I really wanted to think it through for myself, and not hear what my sisters were saying, or what Scott was saying. Even though I took it all in, I wanted it to be my decision," she says. "My doctor told me there is nothing you will ever regret about having the baby, but he was like, 'You may regret not having the baby.' And I was like: That is so true. And it just hit me. I got so excited, and when I told Scott he was so excited. But I think if I had said I'm not going to keep it, I really think he would have pushed me into keeping it."

Update On 4Moms Product

4Moms has update their website to include new information on the Mamaroo and the Origami. There is also new video of the Mamaroo, which seems like it will be making it to market very soon. The Mamaroo looks like no other baby swing that I have ever seen. It copies the bouncing and swaying that parents instinctively do to comfort babies.

I would expect the Mamaroo first, probably after the ABC show, and then the Origami early next year. (That is what Fall means to stroller companies.)

Lil' Wayne Admits To Fathering Lauren London's Baby

Lil' Wayne has finally admitted to fathering Lauren London's unborn child. He made the vague admission this morning on Big Boy's Radio show, saying: “That’s not rumors. That’s a kid, that’s a child, that’s a life. You don’t hide from that!"

You can listen to the interview here. The quote I used is around the 3:23 mark.

Can someone tell me how he keeps getting all these beautiful women? I just don't get it, he looks like a weasel to me.

Has Kardashian Baby Daddy Changed?

In light of 's pregnancy, Scott Disick, 25, has changed, says her sister Khloe.

Though the couple split in February after she suspected him of cheating, "he's always been obsessed with Kourtney," Khloe told Usmagzine.com Sunday at a pool party at Wet Republic in Las Vegas to promote their new E! show Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. (I think that the break up was just another publicity stunt to hype the new show, either that or she is very stupid to take the cheat back. But of course I think that the pregnancy announcement was timed to get free press for the show, if not the whole pregnancy. It all screams of desperation.)

These days, "he's more -- well, I don't know if a man can be maternal, but he's definitely becoming more maternal," Khloe added. ("Paternal," Kourtney, 30, corrected her.)(Just because he is excited about the baby doesn't mean that he isn't cheating.)

She said she isn't sure they'll wed.

"I feel like there's just so much in my mind, and I have so much to plan and think about for the baby," she said. "I will worry about myself later."

As for her pregnancy, she said, "I feel good."

She said she hasn't had any weird cravings. "I have more healthy cravings than my normal eating habits," she said. "I crave fruit and smoothies. I mean, I definitely eat junk. Yesterday, I laid in bed and ate Pinkberry and Twizzlers and Mexican food. I mix it up."

Kourtney - who is due in December - said she's gained about 10 pounds so far.

"I'm embracing it," she said. "I like when my body changes. I like seeing it. I run around naked all day at home. I think it's like a beautiful thing."

She said she doesn't know yet if she's having a boy or girl.

Though filming on their new Miami show has wrapped, "we're taping season four of Keeping up with the Kardashians which we've already filmed a little bit for and we start fully taping in September," Kourtney said.

Woman Will Give Birth To 12 Babies

Somebody needs to take some of these fertility doctors out back and beat some sense into them. A woman in Tunisia is believed to be pregnant with 12 babies (6 boys, 6 girls). She got pregnant with the supersized litter by fertility treatments after having recurrent miscarriages. The woman is a teacher, and will receive help from the Tunisian government. The father, Marwan is quoted as saying, "In the beginning, we thought that my wife would give birth to twins, but more foetuses were discovered. Our joy increased with the growing number."

Will this game of fertility one upmanship end when a woman dies? Because the babies in these supersized baby litters die or are disabled more than you hear about, and it hasn't put a stop to women trying to top the last stupid woman.

Kendra and Hank Pick Baby Name

Kendra Wilkinson and NFL player Hank Baskett have picked a traditional name for their son, who is due to be born on Christmas Day. "Hank and i have soooo much to do to prepare for our baby's arrival, but one thing we can already cross off our list is coming up with a name," the Kendra star, 24, writes on her blog. "We've already decided to name our son Hank Baskett IV!!!" Last week the couple revealed that they are having a boy. As for why they picked the name, Wilkinson says, "Hank's dad and his grandfather were both named Hank, so it was very important to us to carry on the family tradition." This will be the first child for the couple, who got married in June. The expectant mom adds: "I can't wait to meet my little Hank."

It wasn't like the poor girl had much choice for names, her husband is a III after all so you know that his family would really want a IV. But he probably won't be the only baby Hank born this year. Is one of those slightly trendy baby names. But she is doing it for the right reason, family tradition.

It used to be that the ultimate hairstyle statement for a woman was to shave your head bald (or close), but these days celebs have put their own twist on the avant-garde style. If your not sure that you, or your head shape, can pull off a completely shaved look, ease yourself into the style by going partially bald first. Cue Cassie Ventura, Lala Vasquez, Keyshia Cole, Raven Symone and the pioneer Kelis. They've all put their unique interpretation of the style by adding hair dye, patterns, track lines and even ultra girly curls on the side of the head still with hair.

If you're going to try this style be prepared. Stock up on bobby pins to stop your long sided hair from falling across the border. Also, invest in a good pomade to keep your shaved side neat and frizz free. As always, keep your hair healthy with a good conditioner like Carol's Daughter's Tui Leave-in and Creme of Nature's moisturizing shampoo. So come on ladies, do Grace Jones proud and get the clippers out!

Zoe Saldana and her stylist have had a busy summer. With the release of her summer smash "Star Trek" the Dominican diva had to come hard (and correct) on the red carpet. Naturally, Zoe delivered.
