Bride to Be Wears Salvage Life

I got so many comments, emails and tweets yesterday in regards to my "dissatisfaction" post.  It is nice to know that I am not alone in my feelings and that it was a good reminder for many.  Let's continue to encourage each other in this journey.  Today's post is a perfect follow up to that discussion.  Sometimes when you sell online, you feel detached from your customers because you just send the items off and never meet the new owner.  Every now and then, you have a lovely customer like Kelly Lavelle, who bought a dress from our shop for her engagement shoot and just sent me the photos. Such a cute and quirky shoot, they are adorable!  The dress looks fantastic on her!  Her mom hemmed the dress and used the extra fabric to make a sash.  I am so blessed to provide clothing to stylish girls like this and especially during such an important time of life.  All photos by Maria Vicencio Photography, if you click on the link you can see more photos in other fun vintage dresses.

Spring 2011 Lookbook Preview

I just received the final photos for our Spring Lookbook  from photographer Alice Hu.  I probably won't be able to compile the lookbook until later this week or early next, but here is a little tease to tide you over.  I've been busy over at the studio trying to get things set up and can't wait to show you what I've done!

Spring 2011 Lookbook Shoot Location

We're shooting our Spring Lookbook today!  I'm so excited!  Alice Hu is our photographer and we've been working together on the concept.  She's great!  We met the other day to scope out a location for the shoot and here are some quick photos I snapped while we were walking around.  Can't you just picture a pretty girl wearing amazing vintage falling into these backdrops?

Recently I have been making friends with some of the other wonderful online vintage sellers.  Someone was asking me the other day how I can be friends with the competition?  I explained to them that vintage is one of a kind, so we really aren't competing and we can appreciate the items that another seller has in their shop.  We connect on the plain fact that we think vintage is great and we all are trying to make a living selling what we love! Photo shoot for Harvey's

I styled a photo shoot today for Harvey's (you know them, they make bags out of seatbelts!) with all of my Salvage Life vintage clothes. The crew was great, the food was good and I think the photos are going to look fab. Here are a few quick pics I took with my blackberry just to give you a sneak peak.

Fall '09 Photo Shoot - Sneak Peek

I was just going through some of the pictures from Sunday's photo shoot and I am really happy with the results. I was pretty nervous since this is my first time being my own fashion photographer, but the photos look just like I imagined in my head. I have to say, it's really nice not to have to try to communicate my ideas to another creative mind, sometimes artists just have different ways of seeing things, not wrong just different. Katie and I made a great two woman team; she was model, hair stylist and makeup artist while I was photographer and stylist. Here's one of my favorites of the photos so far...no editing has been done.

Salvage Life in Graceland Photo Shoot

I finally got the pictures from the Graceland photo shoot for a 944 magazine competition featuring some of our clothes, remember this post and this post. This little collection is my favorite of the ones I received. The beautiful piece worn by the model in the middle is a dress I just sold to a customer for her wedding! Thank you to photographer Tina Deleon and stylists Allison Rosenbloom and Rachel Caprice.

MY PHOTOGRAPHY DEBUT

I am back in town and have been buried under a pile of work. I think vacations are a little more complicated for business owners...when you return home, there is exponentially more work. Well, we had a great time in Sedona. It is absolutely beautiful there and the wedding was amazing...I will be posting pictures soon! Thank you all for your patience and well wishes while I was away.

In other news...
For the past few months Salvage Life has had Nathan Huesmann taking lovely photographs of all the garments. We are so thankful for the talent and hard work that he dedicated to us. Due to some recent life changes, he will no longer be with us and we will miss him very much! In the meantime, I have been learning my way around a camera, one borrowed from my dear friend Jon. Here is a peak at my first shoot. These items will be appearing in the SHOP over the next few weeks.

4th Spring Photo Shoot

I just got back from our photo shoot and man am I tired. I always find it puzzling that I get so tired from three hours of standing there and telling Katie to hold her hand a slightly more to the right. I guess it does involve a little more than that...dressing Katie, checking to make sure everything looks right, handing her accessories, moving tumble weeds and carrying ridiculously heavy bags of clothes. Anyways, props to Katie who has endured cold weather, wind, lizards, bees, uncomfortable shoes and my perfectionism. Of course, to Nathan as well, for making her look so good! I will post some sneak peaks when I get the photos on Friday.
