Inspiration: Flares from theSartorialist

Damn.  I've been on the fence about getting another pair of flared jeans, since I have my pair of darkgrey J Brand Lovestory ones, but pics like these are really nudging me over the edge.  I'm a lil unsure about the style's staying power, but then I guess this really proves that fashion repeats itself every other decade or so - I remember when they were EVERYWHERE in jr high/high school in the '90s, almost 20 yrs ago (ugh).  The only downside is the requirement of skyhigh platforms to be worn w/the jeans - I still have not mastered the art of skyhighs worn in casual daytime settings.

sidenote: How effing awesome are all these outfits?  The coat in the first one, the loosely tucked in drapey white shirt in the last one, and EVERYTHING in the middle one (the bag, the scarf, the chains, the fur…le sigh)

Inspiration: Victoria Beckham

Loved the Spice Girls.
Loved her in the Spice Girls movie (yup, I saw it when it came out in theaters!)
Love the evolution of her style, from skimpy booby WAG to superchic and stylish.
Love her sense of humor in interviews:

Love the way she can rock a black blazer - in all its incarnations - no matter where she is.

and finally, just for kicks…

Love that rock!

Inspiration: Rachel's Strapless Yellow Embroidered Dress from Friends

Source: Friendsgnereration.com

I loved this dress when this episode first aired (The One With All the Kissing), and judging from my googling, many others do too.  All these years, and it seems nobody on the web has been able to figure out who made this dress, or where to buy it.  Everything I can find is only sort of similar, and I want the exact dress!  Dammit.  I hate when the internet fails me.

Inspiration: Black Swan

Black feather skirt: $35
with feather epaulette (shoulders): $47
Length: 35cm

I wish I could pull a Carrie Bradshaw and skip along the streets of NYC clad in a flouncy ballerina tutu, but alas, I am not so gutsy.  Wasn't in love w/the movie (or Natalie Portman in it - she was so much better in one of my fav movies of all time: Closer), but the visuals were so beautiful.  Too bad I have too much fear to wear anything like that -- even this skirt, I wonder, where the hell would I possibly wear a skirt made of oilyblack feathers?!  How does one put together an outfit w/this?  I'm seriously asking, bc god how fun would it be to wear a featherskirt!

T, 1/20/11:  wait, you could totally wear something like the last pic . . . I've seen a feather skirt by e&j at Loehmanns.  And e&j can do no wrong . . .

Inspiration: Black Ankle Boots from BecauseImAddicted

I too would like to casually stroll down the street in jean shorts and 5" Louboutins, one hand holding my classic quilted Chanel, the other a bottle of orange juice bc, yenno, health is cool.  One of these days, I may actually attempt the whole "walking down the street on a normal Tuesday wearing 5" stilettoes" thing, bc that of course looks normal inreallife.

Inspiration: Missoni from theSartorialist

This. Is. PERFECTION.  I seriously cannot express the depth of my love for every single aspect of this picture.

The dress.
The boots.
The watch.
The bracelets.
The rings.
The hair.
The tan.
The legs.
The sunglasses.
The water, the sky, SYDNEY (my originallove).

I may have walked barefoot along that very road when I went back there during a college break.

I need that dress!!!  Where can I find it?!

ps. Apparently her name is Kate Waterhouse, the "Olivia Palermo of Australia".

pps. A testament to the powers of theSartorialist -- the below is from thefashionspot, a much more "candid" shot:
