Street Style: Gabi of Young, Fat & Fabulous

This past weekend over brunch, a group of friends and I were discussing fashion (no surprise there) the subject evolved to fashion blogs and we started naming our favorites. We all had our iPhones, Driods and Blackberrys out so we quickly started googling sites to view each other's recommendations. Hands down the unanimous winner was Young, Fat & Fabulous. If you don't know, please get to know. Gabi Gregg is the blog's savvy and fashion forward author. Not only has she been featured on Vogue Italia's site, she's also MTV's Twitter correspondant. Don't sleep on this talent. Her style choices are to die for and she proves time-and-time again that women can look fabulous at any size! I've gotten so many ideas from her already. Click here for details on this photo's outfit.

Street Style: The Satorialist

The original documenter of street style The Satorialist has been busy photographing the most stylish cities in the world. Never straying far from home, he always returns to New York where there is never a shortage of stylish women sashaying in this season’s (and next's) hottest trends. Though all his fashion picks/photos are inspiring, nothing delights me more than seeing the spring and summer outfits that are starting to pop up all over place. Just today I noticed a woman in D.C. dressed in a crisp, sleeveless, white shirt; a high-waisted navy A-line skirt; a brown leather belt wrapped high around her waist and 3 inch tan sandals – she looked fly and knew it! Above and in the slide below are some of the Satorialists' traffic-stopping sistas.

Street Style: Sheronna, Toronto

I thought we had safely locked fannypacks in the fashion volt along with spandex cycling shorts, shoulder pads and anything with excessive frills. I was wrong. Toronto native Sheronna has revived no less than three “back in the day” trends – the big 80s reading glasses, spandex shorts (with polka dots!) and the infamous fannypack (a regular purse will do). I’m surprised to say that she’s actually working this look in the way only someone 110% confident in their skin could. I could never pull this off but I do like the gray tights and converse pairing. Visit Streetpeeper.com to browse through more everyday style mavens all over the world.

Jacket: ZARA Jean Jacket
Shirt: White H&M Polo Shirt
Shoes: White and Turquoise H&M Sneakers
Shorts: Blue and Turquoise H&M Shorts
Tights: Grey H&M Tights

Street Style: Beatrice, Zambia

In this edition of “Street Style” I thought we should go international. This photo was actually taken by my mother on a recent trip to Lusaka, Zambia. She was at a friend’s bachelorette party and spotted this lady walking by and stopped her for a photo. Like my mom, I love the mix of traditional, African fabrics and the modern cut of the dress. See the back of this outfit here. Also notice the great accessories she's wearing. Apparently, Beatrice’s mother made the dress for her. Gotta love a mom who can sew! Keep sending in your photos to ILikeHerStyle@Gmail.com. I haven’t forgotten about anyone who has already sent in their pic, just posting something different every time. I’ll let you know in advance if I use your photo. :)

Street Style: Khakes, New York

Occupation: Designer
Favorite Stores in NYC: Gold Hanger
Top: Zero
Jeans: Jordache
Jewelry: Bijules NYC
Shades: Vintage
Shoes and Bag: Vintage, Hayden-Harnett
Taken On: Houston and Orchard St., May 6, 2007

So in honor of the new Wunderbloc site that just launched, I grabbed a pic of my girl Khakes (taken in the Lower East Side) who is working the “flyness” out of those skin tight jeans. Find out the details on her outfit above. I just love it when a style diva is generous with her fashion knowledge and isn’t all, “oh, I got this in the sale. Can’t remember when or where.” Yeah, right!

Street Style: Erica, Alabama

This edition of Street Style features fellow blogger and friend Erica of “Erica B’s DIY Style”. I love her site because she shows you how to find and sew (or if you’re hopeless at sewing like me, give to a seamstress) the looks that are hot right now! This photo serves as inspiration for the psychedelic trend celebs like Beyonce, Rihanna and Sandy Lomax are wearing. Click here to get the lowdown from the lady herself on how to look as fly as she does!

Street Style: Yetunde, New Jersey

This is a new section brought to you from I Like Her Style! and Pearl Magazine. There are so many fabulous and stylish fashionistas out there this site shouldn’t only be about the celebrities! First up is Yetunde representing New Jersey. She’s shown here on her way to a dinner cruise in New York. She looks absolutely AMAZING! Her outfit is perfection from head-to-toe. Pearl Magazines says:

“Being Brown is so divine! Notice how well her over-sized clutch compliments the dress. Vertical stripes make her look longer -- she's ready! Great Job Hon! You are Pearl!”

See more gorgeous ladies and fashionistas on the go at www.thepearlmag.com. Tune in next week for the next edition of Street Style and if you have a photo of yourself looking superb that you’d like to share with I Like Her Style! readers, send them in to ILikeHerStyle@gmail.com.

Silver Streak

Woman in Italy during Milan Fashion Week.
Giovanna Battaglia, fashion editor at L'Uomo Vogue.
Women in New York City during New York Fashion Week.
Giovanna Battaglia again. I think these are the same shoes as above!

Silver heels were made for black, opaque tights. Don’t believe me? Then take a long hard look at the very fashionable ladies above. Now, I know it’s technically spring, but here in D.C. the weather is still on the chilly side so I’m thinking about rocking this look for a few weeks until summer arrives. Pair with a ridiculously short mini skirt or shorts for maximum effect!

I don’t do cold. Give me high temperatures and stifling humidity over frostbite any day. I really shouldn’t complain though; it’s been pretty mild here in D.C. It started to feel like winter just two weeks ago. To combat the dropping temperatures I’m layering my clothes to create the perfect winter chic look. The trick is to pick lighter fabrics so that you don’t end up feeling (and looking) like a football player. Keep your thickest tops, cardigans and obviously coats, for the outermost layer. And if you can pull it off, throw on some sunglasses… Only a few of us can rock them in the winter without looking retarded! (See photo above).

Le Street C’est Chic!

Women in Brooklyn, New York.
Woman outside the Apple Store in Midtown Manhattan.
Woman on the streets of London.
Teenagers on Walnut Street in Philadelphia.

More wonderful pics from The Sartorialist. People in New York definitely have their own way of dressing, it’s like they were born with an innate sense of style. Above are some of my favorite photographs and in the slide show below are a few other pics The Satorialist has taken in Harlem, Brooklyn, Manhattan and London.

Baby Doll Heaven…

Over on The Sartorialist this baby doll dress has been spotted no fewer than four times outside the runway shows during New York Fashion Week. I think it’s too cute, perfect for summer and winter. I can’t find out who the designer of this one is, but as usual I have some great alternatives below. Check out how this lady teams hers with a cardigan, just add tights for the perfect winter ensemble!

My Picks!

Left to Right: Foulard Jumper Dress by Cynthia Steffe, $250.00, www.girlshop.com; Retro Satin Dress, $22.80, Forever 21; Plaid Babydoll Dress, $24.80, Forever 21; Edgar Dress, $29.99, www.gojane.com
Left to Right: Jumper by AKA New York, $298.00, www.shopbop.com; Lux Cord Jumper, $68.00, Urban Outfitters; Tweed Jumper, $118.00, www.freepeople.com; Ruched Babydoll Dress, $98.00, www.freepeople.com

For the winter months wear over jeans or black tights with a big chunky knit and as summer approaches, strip off the layers to leave the dress and a pair of sky-high wedges… perfection!

Note: Check out JL0’s version of the Babydoll dress.

The Sartorialist

Giovanna Battaglia, fashion editor of L'Uomo Vogue, on her way to the Tents at New York Fashion Week.
Random Girl on Essex Street, New York.
Random Girl on Madison Avenue, New York.
Random Girl in Soho, New York.
Giovanna Battaglia again outside the Tent during New York Fashion Week.

Oh my goodness! I just spent the last hour looking through the archives of photographer Scott Schuman aka "The Sartorialist". He takes amazing and awe-inspiring pictures of street fashion (see above pics). He just finished shooting his portfolio on all the fashion outside the Olympus Fashion Week Tent. Check it out @ www.style.com/peopleparties/street/091906 or visit his blog STAT!
