Diane von Furstenberg 1960s or 1970s Vintage Multi Colored Maxi Dress

Starting Bid: $49.99
S&H: $4
Ends: March 23, 2011; 1:45PM PST (4:45PM PST)

Didn't forget to add the first part of our usual post (size, material, measurements, etc.) -- seller just didn't provide any info.  Emailed seller for measurements, forgot to ask about material, but based on a closeup of the dress, I'm assuming cotton, polyester, or rayon.  Prob not silk.

Okay, onto the pros:  VTG DVF!!!  That's ALL I want right now.  I'm DETERMINED to get it.  Yes, CAPS for emphasis.  Plus, maxi and colors.  Wooo!

Cons:  Fit is the biggest one.  Look at the first pic, showing the full on frontal.  Dude, the armholes and straps are so big that even the mannequin's boobies aren't covered.  Fine, I can prob sew the straps smaller myself, but that still leaves the prob of the armpit-to-armpit measurement being waaaay too big.  Also, the listing says this dress is better suited for a "tall female" since it's so long -- I guess I can get it hemmed, but what a bitch.  Finally, I'm not entirely thrilled at the price, since most likely the dress will require some work.  Sigh . . . I'm never gonna get my vtg dvf . . .

*Update:  Seller got back to me:

(1) armpit to armpit: 15 INCH
(2) waist; Stretchy fabric (: - about 14-16in
(3) hips; slightly more-
(4) total length from top of shoulder to hem: 64inches - LONG (:

The armpit-to-armpit seems okay, except the armpits seem to start at the waist!  And since it's not one of those thick strap halters, having armholes at the waist won't work well.  I'm okay with the waist being slightly big, bc there's a tie, but yeah . . . this is making me pretty sad.  Maybe turning it into a halter like you said is the best idear . . . except the back'll hold up funny.  This dress'll def need work if I get it.

A -- 3/19/11: I was excited about this when I first saw it, but the more I look at it, the less I like it.  The fabric seems shoddy and uncomfortable, the print looks tacky up close, the straps are the kind you'd see on misshapen tank tops at Wal-Mart…I'm just gonna stop there bc I feel you may want to hurt me if I keep going.  Add on the bad fit, and way high price, and I'd have to say that this is not your vtg dvf soulmate.

3/22/11:  Ended with 1 bid, at $49.99.  Seller had wrote back saying I could make an offer.  Right when I decided to do it ($30), I saw someone bid.  Guess it wasn't meant to be.
