Okay, so what if it's lingerie, it doesn't look see through, right?!  I'm afraid it might be super thin, but it doesn't look that way either.  I've been wanting a red/gold maxi ever since I came across a WCAGA maxi on ebay, but I didn't wanna pay $30 for something with a broken strap (granted, my hale bob has a broken strap too and it works fine, but it was all me!  I wanna do the damage to my own shit.).  I've never been thrilled about one shoulder dresses, but hell, I need to try something new.  Not too worried about the waist; I'll belt.  In sum, style I want + brand I lurve + vtg + price I'm good with . . . AHHH!!!  My first vtg dvf?!?!?!?!  Will the search FINALLY be over?!

Same day update:  Seller replied, in relevant part, "The length from top of shoulder to end hem is 52 inches long. No, the fabric is not see through."

I MUST HAVE!!!  All my maxis are 52-53" . . . THIS IS PERFECT!!!

3/24/2011:  I won at starting bid ($29.99).  I had bid $32, because I didn't want to pay more than $40 total for a poly dress.  This was listed twice before:  first time was $99.99 with a buy-it-now of $169.99; second time was $49.99 with a buy-it-now of $99.99.

A weird calm has washed over me.  My nearly three year journey has finally come to an end; I was determined not to let this drag to five years, the amount of time it took me to find the perfect pair of turquoise pumps.  I remember wanting a vtg dvf ever since August/September 2008, when I read an article about how all the "it," fashion forward girls in NY had one.  I even visited one of the vtg stores in soho known for carrying them; I don't remember anything else about it.  So this isn't a silk wrap, and it's from her lingerie collab, but it should hold me for now.  The way my vintage calf hair leopard bottega keeps me from desperately wanting a woven one.

I.  Am.  Finally.  Done.  Siiiiiiiiigh.

A -- 3/25/11: CONGRATS!!!!!!!!  Omg I can't believe you finally did it.  Even tho you know I am not in love w/the weird shoulder thing, I believe you will find a way to make this work.  (your weird calm, however, is kinda freaking me out haha!)  Ungaro!  Vtg DVF!  What's next in our journey to total closet identicalness?!

T, 3/30/11:  Man, after Chanel skirt and KC, I def consider this dress a success, despite the probs.  First, seller is slightly retarded -- she had listed the dress as a sz 4 and a polyblend.  Dress tag says sz small and 100% polyester (which prob means I couldn't have gotten any smaller, since xs didn't exist back then).  Second, about half a foot of the hem is coming apart, and I've emailed the seller just letting her know.  Third, dress is a little loose; not sure if it's worth getting altered; I've used a bobby pin pinning the underarm smaller for now, which seems to hold well.

Now . . . onto the good.  The dress is seriously beautiful; it's almost too beautiful for me to deem it casual!  I can't believe ppl used to wear shit like this to bed -- the material is so thick and doesn't feel cheap at all, despite being 100% polyester.  I always loved how dvf has specific darts/vertical hems to add shape/drape/fit . . . and this is no different.  Things really were made well back in the day!
